Following the publication of Leading the NHS workforce through to recovery on the opening day of NHS Employers' annual conference and exhibition on 2 November, this new briefing looks at why and how employers can use talent management to get the best from their workforce.
Within the next year, primary care trusts will be expected to assure themselves that all their providers have talent management plans in place, which means that NHS trusts and other providers should be developing their plans now.
Recognising that progress on talent management implementation varies significantly between different NHS organisations, this briefing draws on good practice from across the public sector and includes a talent management checklist to help employers get started.

The conference today focusses on workshops and masterclasses covering the four themes of staff engagement, the productivity challenge, policy into practice and the responsible employer.
The afternoon plenary features Jim Lawless, inspirational speaker and author of Taming Tigers. Delegates will have a chance for informal networking during the day in our largest-ever exhibition and a Cuban theme will keep them entertained at our black tie dinner from 8pm.
