She is a partner in Equinox Consulting, a management consultancy that was set up in March 1983 to promote economic and social advancement amongst BME communities in the UK.
Her work at Equinox Consulting has centred on equality and diversity issues relating to business start up and growth, voluntary organisations and access to resources and the employment, progression and retention of BME staff. An integrated approach of consultancy, training and research is used in her work.
Maxine has undertaken several study trips to the USA to examine ways in which the American experience in business development and procurement strategies can be adapted for use in the UK. While serving on the Ethnic Minority Business Forum she led a delegation sponsored by the DTI to Los Angeles to assess how procurement strategies to increase business opportunities for minority ethnic and women-owned businesses in the USA could be used in the UK. As a result of the visit a pilot program to help SMEs in the UK was run for 12 months by the DTI.
She has served on various Boards in a non executive capacity: these include - the Education Business Partnership in Hackney and also on the LETEC strategic forum on the National Education Training Targets. She is a former director of Business Link London Central, Brixton City Challenge, Capital Community Foundation (formerly South East London Community Foundation), Black Roof Community Housing Association and Haringey Refugee Consortium Ltd.
Maxine served for four years on the Ethnic Minority Business Forum that advises the Small Firms Minister in the DTI. She led on procurement issues.
Currently she is involved in a number of local community organisations as well as being a school governor and a Non Executive Director of Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
