In 1997 Michael was appointed a Non-Executive Director at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Trust and became their Vice Chairman in 2000 until his appointment at King’s College Hospital.
Michael studied Economics at Brunel University and Birkbeck College, University of London. He then went on to become a Chartered Certified Accountant and was a Registered Auditor. He is a member of the Health Panel and Chairman of the Corporate Governance and Risk Management Committee for the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
Michael is an external advisor to the Royal College of Nursing Audit Committee as well as a Non-Executive Director of the Food Standards Agency. He is the President of the Sickle Cell Society and Patron of the Big Issue, Malawi.
Michael lectured at the University of East London in Finance on the Masters in Business Administration (MBA) course and in Strategic Finance on the Masters in Finance course. He also lectured on undergraduate courses in Accounting Methodology, Accounting and Finance on the Business Studies & Economics undergraduate courses at Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London.
