Conference programme

Leading workforce thinking has been developed with input from NHS leaders and feedback from the event in 2008 to ensure the sessions are interactive, relevant and explore the issues that affect you most.

Organised around four themes, the conference will provide an in-depth look at the key NHS workforce issues that you are facing.

This year's themes are as follows. To find out more about the sessions in each strand simply click on the strand title.

Staff engagement

The NHS staff survey shows that trusts still face challenges communicating effectively with staff and helping them to feel valued. This strand will identify key lessons from the survey and share good practice examples of trusts engaging with their staff to help deliver better services.

The productivity challenge

In an increasingly challenging environment, the NHS needs to continue to improve its productivity while improving quality. This strand will look at how the NHS can secure better value for money, release staff time to care for patients, and implement service improvements.

Policy into practice

From moving care out of hospitals to delivering on the aspirations of the NHS Next Stage Review and World Class Commissioning, the NHS is undergoing transformational change. This strand will identify the key role that HR and workforce professionals can play and ensure you are up to date with the NHS policy agenda from pay to pensions.

The responsible employer

The NHS Constitution and the staff pledges set out clear responsibilities the NHS has as an employer. This strand will set out what organisations need to do to become a responsible employer including improving health and well-being, developing staff and their roles, and ensuring equality and diversity.

Please note: This programme may change due to unforeseen circumstances. NHS Employers retains the right to change the programme and/or speakers at short notice and will endeavour to update you when and if this happens.
