NHS Employers, set up in 2004, is part of the NHS Confederation.
Our mission
To be the voice of employers in the NHS, supporting them to put patients first.
Our vision
To be the authoritative voice of workforce leaders, experts in HR, negotiating fairly to get the best deal for patients.
Objectives
We help employers make sense of current and emerging healthcare issues by regularly collecting and analysing the views of employers and using our expertise to support you in managing the transition during the health reforms.
We keep employers up to date with the latest workforce thinking and expert opinion, provide practical advice and information, and generate opportunities to network and share knowledge and best practice.
Four priority areas
We work with employers in the health service in England to reflect their views and act on their behalf in four priority areas:
- pay and negotiations
- recruitment and planning the workforce
- healthy and productive workplaces
- employment policy and practice.
The NHS Employers organisation is part of the NHS Confederation.
See our What we do web page or our read about our work over 2011/2012 for more details.
Keeping in touch
We keep employers updated through our weekly NHS Workforce Bulletin, fortnightly NHS Line Managers Bulletin, letters to Government and stakeholders, as well as chairing and speaking at events and conferences. Our director, Dean Royles, also writes regular blogs and emails to the HR community. We are also active on a range of social media platforms, including Twitter and LinkedIn.
How we work
Strong partnership working underpins our business. Our partnerships with Government, trade unions and other stakeholders mean we can promote employers' interests at the highest levels, addressing current workforce issues in a timely and responsive way and helping to shape the future.
Our board is chaired by Michael O'Higgins. The board oversees the strategic direction and governance of the organisation, while our policy board guides the focus and priorities of our policy work.
The Department of Health sets the broad framework within which we operate, but it is employers themselves who drive our agenda.
NHS Employers is a not for profit organisation which is part of the NHS Confederation, a registered charity.
