14/06/2011
Dean Royles, director of the NHS Employers organisation, responds to the Governments' announcements on the NHS Future Forum report.

Various staff"The Government has accepted the core recommendations of the Future Forum. These include giving employers a more central role in determining the future supply of well trained staff who are essential to providing and supporting high quality patient care.

"As an organisation, NHS Employers has campaigned strongly to promote the key role of employers in this critical area, which Professor Steve Field has described as 'the foundation on which the NHS is built and the single most important thing in raising standards of care'.

"Employers are well placed to determine the local needs of patients and to ensure that health services provide the best care for them.

"The Government has flagged further discussion on the development of the education and training proposals in the autumn. The NHS Employers organisation will continue to highlight the central role that employers need to play in ensuring we have a highly regarded, well trained workforce delivering quality care compassionately."
