Arrangements for the additional public holiday to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

29/12/2011
The Government has announced that there will be a special public holiday for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. The 2012 late May public holiday will be moved to Monday 4 June 2012 and an additional Jubilee public holiday will be on Tuesday 5 June 2012.

As this is an additional public holiday, it will be for local employers to decide on payment and leave arrangements for their staff required to work on 5 June 2012. There will be no national agreement on this but we expect employers may wish to consider implementing the arrangements they made for the Royal Wedding holiday in 2011.

The view from the NHS Employers organisation is that where employees would be required to work on Tuesday 5 June 2012, payment and conditions of service would be those which would apply on a normal Tuesday, with a day off in lieu and other staff would be entitled to a days paid leave.

We will keep you informed of developments through our website and our weekly NHS Workforce bulletin.
