24/08/2009
The Department for Work and Pensions has announced a range of measures to provide people with mental health problems with extra support to manage their condition and remain in the workplace.

These include the publication of a National Strategy for Mental Health and Employment in the autumn detailing expectations of employers, healthcare professionals, organisations and individuals in improving well-being in the workplace.

The Department for Work and Pensions also intends to create a new network of dedicated mental health experts across Jobcentre Plus to work with health system colleagues to coordinate support for people who have mental health conditions. They will also double the Access to Work fund, from £69m to £138m over the next five years, providing practical advice and financial support to disabled people and their employers to help them overcome work-related obstacles resulting from disability.

NHS Employers is currently working with NHS organisations to develop a work programme on employment and mental health and further details will be announced shortly.
