The letter links to the General Medical Council's (GMC) publication Raising and acting on concerns about patient safety, which reinforces that doctors have a duty to act when they believe patient safety is at risk or when a patient’s care or dignity is being compromised.

It also signposts to the GMC's Leadership and management for all doctors, which aims to help doctors understand their wider management and leadership responsibilities in relation to employment issues, teaching and training, as well as planning, using and managing resources.

The letter also includes links to the ministerial statement announcing a strategic review into the Nursing and Midwifery Council, as well as advance reports of the proposed structure for the National Commissioning Board.
