Producing a Disability Equality Scheme

Employers will need to make a number of arrangements to implement the new Disability Equality Duty effectively, including developing a Disability Equality Scheme (DES), to meet the requirements of new legislation.

Getting started

A senior level steering group, with ownership at board level, can demonstrate organisational commitment and accountability to the implementation of a DES.  Local implementation will be facilitated through diversity teams, with devolved responsibilities, that are appointed at each level and in each section of the organisation.  This group can also feedback on progress of directorates.

The planning framework covers all the key steps in the development of a Disability Equality Scheme and is a useful tool that can be adopted by organisations. Download the planning framework.
