Solutions and priorities

When you have established your organisational levers and identified your key stakeholders, you can start identifying solutions to achieve your objectives.

It is likely that you will identify a range of potential solutions and you will need to refine this list:

  • initially identify the things that really should be done and their impact on equality target groups
  • then identify the things that you recommend are done, in line with available resources to meet your project objectives.

checklistUse our prioritising tool to help you do this and reflect your actions and support mechanisms (levers and stakeholders)  in your project plan.

Like your objectives, your solutions should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time specific (SMART).  You need to use your existing monitoring processes to map the overall impact of your changes.

At this stage, you might also want to look at some examples of what other trusts are doing on equality and diversity. You can do this by going to the Shared Learning area of our website.

Your agreed solutions now need to be integrated into existing processes within your organisation. This could be one of the following:

It is your role to identify where the solution best fits (and works) for your organisation, taking into account your organisational levers. You then need to take it to the most appropriate/influential person who can make it happen.

Now is the time to finish off your project report, which will help you to communicate with your board.

For inspiration, read the learning from other trusts and don't forget to think about how you will monitor and evaluate your progress.

Finally, remember our top tips and celebrate your success as you embed equality and diversity in practice.
