Getting buy-in

The final – and critical – aspect at this stage is to secure buy-in from key people within your organisation.

Informal discussionsThe first step in this process is getting board commitment. The report that you prepare for your board for these purposes should be built around the project report that you have been developing as you go along.

You  should also include some broader, key messages that will resonate with the board.  These should link to the wider NHS agenda for example the the NHS Staff Constitution, staff pledges and efficiency and effectiveness

See our business case for diversity briefing for more details on this area, including a template presentation that you can adapt to include key messages relevant to your organisation.

Communication is critical to your success at this stage. Your messages need to be clear, simple and relevant to your audience. If you can achieve this, you will be well on your way to mainstreaming equality and diversity in your organisation.

You now know where you are now and where you want to get to. The next step will help to make sure you know how to get there.
