The awards recognise good employment practice through a robust process and also provide healthcare organisations with an opportunity to benchmark their employment practice against other organisations in the same sector and in the overall healthcare market.
This page looks at some of the key winners from the 2009 awards and how they are engaging with their staff to improve the quality of care.
NHS Islington relish the challenges of serving a diverse inner-city population. Their enthusiasm has helped propel them to top of the PCT table in the Healthcare 100 awards.
Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust employers over 6,000 staff and secured 13th place in the Healthcare 100 awards and was also voted the top largest employer in the 2009 survey.
Stockport NHS Foundation Trust was voted 16th in the Healthcare 100 and the top healthcare employer in the North West.
South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust was ranked the top ambulance trust in the Healthcare 100 awards and came within the overall top 100.
South Essex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust came eighth place in the Healthcare 100 and was also voted the top mental health trust and top healthcare employer for managers.
Yeovil District General Hospital was the top performing general NHS hospital in the Healthcare 100 awards and was ranked tenth in the overall top 100 listing.

Enter the 2010 awards
The programme and awards are in their second year and entries can now be made via the Healthcare 100 website.
In a change from last year's programme, five new categories have been added covering the four staff pledges set out in the NHS Constitution.
These are: clear roles and responsibilities, personal development, well-being and safety and engagement and empowerment.
The awards are free the enter and will draw on employer and employee survey results carried out by Ipsos MORI who will generate an overall ranking as well as top organisations in the specific categories.
To enter you will need to register your organisation by 31 December 2009 but you have until 31 January 2010 to ensure that all your surveys are returned.
