Statistics released in the Department of Health report Provisional seasonal flu vaccine Uptake in frontline healthcare workers with direct patient care (HCW) - all trusts 2011/12 shows a positive increase in the amount NHS staff being vaccinated against flu this season. Statistics for the same period last year showed an uptake among staff of just 26 per cent.
Staff across the country have made a concious effort to protect themselves and their patients against flu during the winter months of 21011/2012.
Birmingham Children's NHS Foundation Trust is among some of the top performing trusts, with 2,235 staff having direct contact with patients and 98.8 per cent of those staff having been vaccinated against flu. A phenomenal effort from all staff.
Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust has over 5,800 staff invloved in direct patient care, of which 87.3 per cent have been vaccianted against flu.
Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust and St Helens and Knowsley Hostpials NHS Trust have each acheived over a 75 per cent uptake of the flu vaccination among staff.
There is still time for staff to be vaccinated against flu - to protect themselves, colleagues and their patients in the cold month of January.
