Employers have a responsibility for ensuring that their workforce is up to date and practising to the appropriate professional standards. The GMCs consultation on CPD sought views on incorporating GMC guidance into local processes, such as appraisal and job planning, and how CPD can be supported by organisations, appraisers and medical managers, including responsible officers. Read NHS Employers' response to the CPD consultation.

A separate GMC consultation on draft revalidation regulations is also relevant to employers and responsible officers, who will be expected to fulfil a range of statutory duties as part of the revalidation process.

As well as seeking general comments on whether the regulations are transparent and sufficiently flexible, the GMC gathered views on detailed points such as whether the GMC should have the flexibility to vary the revalidation date and whether other organisations should be able to perform responsible officer functions. Read NHS Employers'  response to the revalidation regulations consultation.
