The NHS Job Evaluation (JE) Handbook
The NHS JE Handbook is the comprehensive guide for organisations on job evaluation. The JEG has now published an updated third edition of the Handbook, with a supporting paper outlining what's new in this edition and top tips for organisations on JE.
The Handbook now covers areas such as mainstreaming JE and resolving blocked matching and the evaluation of jobs. It also includes details on JE linked to the merger and reconfiguration of heath service organisations, weighting and scoring, band ranges and how to use job profiles.
JEG advice
The JEG also issues the following advice and information to organisations on an on-going basis, for them to action as soon as they are can:
- outcomes/findings of JEG meetings to monitor consistency on implementation
- reminders to JE panel members on procedures and practices covering job matching, job analysis and job evaluation.
The JEG also offers the following training courses for NHS organisations that are run by qualified JE trainers, at a venue of their choice:
- one and two-day refresher training courses for practitioners on matching and/or JE
- two-day training course for new panel members on job matching
- two-day training course for new panel members on job analysis/JE.

Supporting SHAs
SHAs are responsible for supporting trusts on Agenda for Change, including JE. NHS Employers works with SHAs to provide advice on a range of areas including banding issues and
mainstreaming job evaluation.
