Review of clinical excellence awards

17/12/2012
NHS Employers has responded to the recommendations made in the review of clinical excellence awards (CEA), published today (17 December) by the Review Body on Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration (DDRB).
Surgical staff

The review's recommendations support NHS Employers' view that the current system of awards needs revision, and that the CEA contract should reward current performance and encourage career progression, rather than rewarding length of service.

Commenting in a media statement, Dean Royles said:

"The current system of awards definitely needs revision and we are glad the review body supports our view. If we are to have Clinical Excellence Awards then they need to pass the 'Ronseal Test' to ensure staff are rewarded for truly outstanding and excellent contributions to patient care.”

Dean Royles also commented on the junior doctors' scoping report, which was published today by the Department of Health.
