The new Specialty Doctor contract was introduced on 1 April 2008 and implementation of this new contract has been slower than was originally anticipated.
Schedule 28 of the terms and conditions of service set out the anticipation that the job planning process would be completed within three months of doctors expressing an interest in transferring to the new contract.
In an effort to push the assimilation forward NHS Employers and the BMA, have produced an indicative timetable which gives a clear time frame for the job planning and mediation process.
We understand that many trusts in collaboration with their eligible doctors have already completed this assimilation process however we are aware that there are trusts and doctors who are still working towards completion.
We hope that by introducing this new timetable both employers and eligible doctors will be given a clear timeframe for the entire process therefore resolving any further delays in implementation.
A full set of documents to assist with the implementation of the new contract are available on our SAS pages.
