Preparation and planning sections of this toolkit have outlined some of the most important general reasons for having a clear reward strategy. It is vital to the success of the strategy that you have ‘buy-in’ and approval from your board and other key stakeholders. Making and detailing the business case specific to your individual employer situation, based  on the work you have carried out so far is necessary for your board to understand and support the strategy and its contents.

Reward strategies across an organisation as varied and diverse as the NHS will vary hugely in their length and content. Ways to set out your approach can include a strategy document, a presentation or a business case document. Whichever approach you take forward, there are certain items you will need to address. One way of helping to arrive at your final strategy document is to work through a checklist of key questions and statements.

Have I got all the information I need?

We have provided a sample checklist of key questions for you to consider prior to writing your business case. These provided useful points for consideration which may be valuable to address within your business case.

What should I include in the business case?

In addition to the checklist of questions, completing the following statements may be helpful in drafting to complete and include within your business case or provide suggestions for the content.
