The service - that includes a phone line and a new website - provides an automated way for people to be assessed and if required, access anti-virals from a local collection point. The service will also help relieve pressures on GP services.

Role of trainee doctors
Earlier this month (13 July), the Postgraduate Medical Education Training Board (PMETB) issued a statement on the role of trainees and training during times of national emergency.
The PMETB supports trainees contributing appropriately to health service delivery during the flu pandemic and recognises that this may, for a limited period, take precedence over training. The PMETB maintains that trainees must always work within their competence, supported by appropriate supervision.
