Apologies if you have opened this note expecting some breaking NHS HR news or a summary of a recent policy development. It doesn’t!

I have held back writing this note in the hope that I would maintain the tradition of sending you a must-read note, produced in a timely way on a topical issue, but there has been no news this week!

However, I’ve sent this note anyway as tomorrow is my last day at NHS Employers and I really wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for your support, advice, understanding, information, time, camaraderie and wise counsel over the four years I have been here. You and I know the enormous privilege we have of working in HR in the NHS, the joy and the challenges it brings and of course those ‘character building’ moments! I’m looking forward to my new role at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust and continuing my HR journey. Please do expect calls for information and advice!

I leave NHS Employers just as we open our new conference facility here at Brewery Wharf - Horizon Leeds - which offers leading-edge conference, learning and meeting space and is the only purpose-built venue of its kind in the heart of the city. I’m very proud to have been part of establishing this vibrant, state-of-the art facility and it seems very fitting that our staff conference today is its inaugural event.

Please do take advantage of Horizon Leeds. It is available at a discounted rate for NHS organisations and any surplus we make will be reinvested in providing more support, advice and tools for you.

Continuing the revamp of our space at Brewery Wharf, we have also turned our reception area into ‘The Hub’ - a relaxed working and meeting area for visitors and staff. It includes a small semi-private meeting area for three to four people, a more casual meeting space and a workbench for laptops etc.

We will be advertising The Hub to our stakeholders and NHS Confederation members as a free-of-charge space to use for quick catch-up meetings, or simply to call in for a coffee and a place for you to work between meetings. Please call in and make the most of this new facility.

I leave NHS Employers knowing there is a great team of people who are passionate about helping you do your challenging and rewarding jobs and know they will continue to help you always put patients first.

A final thank you for all your good wishes, it has been a pleasure to work with you.

See you soon,
Dean
