DirectorsSteve Barnett, Director![]() Steve Barnett has been appointed acting chief executive of the NHS Confederation until a replacement for Gill Morgan is in post. Steve Barnett leads the work of NHS Employers and is also a director of the NHS Confederation. He is a member of the National Leadership Network for the NHS; the Cabinet Office Public Sector Employers Forum; the Government's Public Services Forum; the National Stakeholder Council for Health, Work and Wellbeing; the Council of the Institute for Employment Studies; Secretary of State's National Stakeholder Forum; the Employers Forum on Disability President's Group; and the Governing Council of the International Hospitals Federation. He is also a member of the Open University's governing council and chair of its staff strategy committee. He has also recently been appointed to the board of the Employers Forum on Disability. Steve joined NHS Employers from the Home Office where he was senior director of human resources. Previous posts include deputy director of HR for the NHS at the Department of Health. Contact Steve at steve.barnett@nhsemployers.org Alastair Henderson, Director of Operations![]() Alastair Henderson is joint director of NHS Employers, with Sian Thomas, whilst Steve Barnett acts up as chief executive for the NHS Confederation. Alastair Henderson heads up key work areas including workforce reform and productivity, workforce planning, recruitment and reform of the professions including MMC and changes to nursing and other professions. He leads on healthy workplaces, health and safety, professional regulation and equality and diversity. Alastair is also responsible for our work on primary care contracting and General Medical Services. Before NHS Employers was established, Alastair was the HR policy lead for the NHS Confederation, representing the organisation on all NHS HR issues. Sian Thomas is Director of Development for NHS Employers with responsibility for developing and managing programmes of work outside the Department of Health contract, in particular developing products and services for trusts and developing subscription services in a new business model for NHS Employers. Sian will be leading the commercial developments within NHS Employers across the UK with employers and networks through developing new membership groups and forming strategic alliances and partnerships outside the NHS for our members. Sian also has responsibility for the NHS Jobs services and the Workforce Change and Improvement Team and is Lead Director for London members, the FT Network and AUK Teaching Hospitals HR Network. Sian attends the NHS Confederation Board of Directors and contributes to the Public Sector Employers Forum, the NHS Professionals Stakeholder Forum and is the NHS Employers link to the NHS Confederation Independent Sector Partners Network and Acute Sector Forum. Before her post in NHS Employers, Sian was Director of HR/OD in the NHS for nearly ten years across Mental Health, Primary care and Acute organisations. Contact Sian at sian.thomas@nhsemployers.org Gill Bellord, Director of Pay, Pensions & Employment Relations![]() Gill Bellord is deputy director responsible for national pay and pensions negotiations on behalf of NHS organisations and for providing advice and support to health service employers on these issues. She leads on securing employer involvement in pay review evidence, negotiating changes to contractual arrangements for Agenda for Change and employed doctors and maintaining current contracts. Gill also leads on employment relations and is our link to the work of the national Social Partnership Forum. Maura is also responsible for engagement and networking with NHS organisations to ensure that NHS Employers is truly responsive to the needs of employers and for co-ordinating our relationships with government and key stakeholder organisations. Programmes cover a range of national workforce priorities and engage NHS staff locally in developing and implementing change ideas that deliver measurable benefits for patients and staff. Programmes establish national learning networks designed to facilitate participant organisations in sharing learning and good practice and in this way, accelerating the pace of change in the service. This responsibility extends to plurality, workforce supply and demand, NHS Careers, workplace health and wellbeing and regulation. Before taking up post with NHS Employers Andrea was Director of Human Resources at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust. In this role she was an active employer representative on the executive of the Staff Council and Pay Negotiating Committee. Graham has worked in the NHS the whole of his professional life. He was District General Manager and Trust Chief Executive in Harrogate for almost 20 years, and before his retirement in September 2005 was Chief Executive of the West Yorkshire Workforce Development Confederation for 5 years.
