Equality and Diversity: a clean bill of health

Book online now

This one day national conference and exhibition, now in its fourth year, will help healthcare organisations to look back at their record on equality and diversity, learn lessons from the past and look forward to how they can build on this work for the future.

20 January 2009
Park Plaza Victoria, London

The event, chaired by Bryan Stoten, takes place against the backdrop of a new single Equality Bill and a new NHS Reform Bill - both of which have significant implications for the equality and diversity agenda. In this respect, the conference and exhibition will help delegates explore how far they have come within their own organisations and what more they need to do to meet the challenges of the emerging agenda.

Featuring a range of presentations covering up-to-the-minute information led by key speakers, as well as comprehensive panel discussions, Equality and Diversity: a clean bill of health will enable you to update your knowledge and understanding of the latest issues in equality and diversity.

What are the benefits of attending?

  • Reflect on past experiences and look forward to the emerging equalities agenda
  • Hear leading speakers discuss the most topical key issues in equality and diversity
  • Get involved in interactive sessions to develop practical tools and expertise applicable to your organisation
  • Gain insight into the issues that affect you most
  • Benefit from excellent networking opportunities among your peers from across the UK

The 2007 conference

Delegate places for the conference in November 2007 sold out quickly, testimony to the fact that achieving equality and diversity across the NHS is critical to the delivery of improved healthcare.

Speakers at our last event included:

  • Rosie Winterton MP, Minister of State for Health Services, Department of Health
  • Dame Judith Mayhew Jonas, Equalities Review Panel
  • Amanda Cox, Policy Manager, ASDA
  • Kamel Hothi, Group Wide Asian Business Development, Lloyds TSB
  • Becca Singh, Gender Equality Duty Manager, Equal Opportunities Commission
  • Liz Sayce, Director of Policy and Communications, Disability Rights Commission
  • Josie Irwin, Head of employment Relations, Royal College of Nursing
  • Surinder Sharma, National Director of Equality & Human Rights, Department of Health
  • Steve Barnett, Director, NHS Employers
  • Nigel Edwards, Director of Policy, NHS Confederation

The feedback received from delegates was extremely positive, with an overwhelming majority stating that they found the event a valuable experience and would like to attend similar events in the future.

"As the field of equality and diversity enters this new and exciting phase, NHS Employers is working to ensure that our activity mirrors the changes to this agenda... it's not only the legal and moral imperatives that drive the core equalities agenda...it's also about the bottom line - the business case."
Steve Barnett, Director of NHS Employers
