The planning for progress: the new SAS contract explained seminars took place in Leeds, Birmingham and London in April and May. These seminars were developed to provide delegates with the latest information regarding the new contract and to help them to understand the implications of the new proposals. Summary of the seminarsNHS Employers held three successful events in Leeds, Birmingham and London to explain and help employers implement the new specialty doctor and associate specialist (2008) contracts. Delegates were welcomed to the event with a recorded video presentation from Heather Lawrence (Chief Executive, Chelsea & Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust) who had chaired the NHS Employers negotiating team for the new contracts. David Grantham (Head of Programmes, NHS Employers) talked through the new contracts, followed by an interactive question and answer session with the panel members. This was followed by lunch and a networking session where delegates were able to speak with panel members informally. In the afternoon session delegates had a chance to hear from Ashley Fraser (Medical Director, NHS Employers) or Kathy McLean (Medical Director, Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust) and receive information and advice on job planning for this group of doctors. There was then a further question and answer session with the panel members. The good practice guide to employing and supporting specialty doctors was launched at the event and can be found on the NHS Employers website, along with other support materials: www.nhsemployers.org/sas What did you think?Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the event a huge success. The feedback from delegates has been extremely positive and helps us to shape future events. Presentations from the eventThe presentations from the seminars are now available to download.
