NHS celebrates 60 years
30 June 2008
Trusts around the country are celebrating 60 years of the NHS this week, with the anniversary falling on Saturday 5 July. More than 230 trusts are using NHS Employers' materials to celebrate their staff and say what makes them proud. This week we will be launching a dedicated website for you to share photos and stories of your celebrations. We are also planning to feature the completed postcards in a grand finale in December so please be sure to return them to us.
Campaign reaches capacity
19 June 2008
More than 230 trusts have now signed up to create art installations using our 'extraordinary' materials to celebrate their staff for the 60th anniversary of the NHS. Due to the unprecedented demand, we are no longer able to offer materials. However, you can still take part by uploading your photos to our forthcoming website, which will be launched at the end of June.
Quotes demonstrate wealth of pride in NHS
13 June 2008
Hundreds of staff, patients and the public filled our 60th anniversary postcards with kind words and heartfelt messages at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital launch of our campaign celebrating 'ordinary people doing extraordinary things' last month. See photos from the day and read a selection of quotes from staff and patients. Make sure you send back your postcards following your exhibition so we can put them on our website and feature them in our campaign grand finale later this year.
More than 200 trusts sign up to campaign
2 June 2008
NHS trusts around the country have seized the opportunity to celebrate their staff as part of the celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the NHS this year. More than 200 trusts have ordered materials for their own events. The unprecedented demand means that some stock is no longer available but we are working to make sure that any trusts who still want to be involved can be. A dedicated website will be available soon for trusts to post photos from their celebrations. We're also asking that you collect all the postcards from your installation and send them back to us so that we can include them in a campaign finale later this year. See our campaign tips and hints page.

Members of the Social Partnership Forum, made up of NHS trade unions, NHS Employers and the Department of Health joined others around the country in celebrating the campaign by jotting down on a postcard why they are proud of the NHS and its staff. Ann Keen, Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Health, who chairs the group said 'This campaign quite rightly highlights the achievements of NHS staff and I am delighted to support it in paying tribute to their extraordinary dedication and commitment." Campaign launched at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital
10 May 2008
NHS Employers launched its campaign to mark the 60th anniversary of the NHS, celebrating NHS staff and the extraordinary contribution they make, at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital's open day on Saturday. Over 1600 people attended throughout the day, with many filling in campaign postcards saying why they were proud of the NHS and its staff. These were attached to a giant 60, forming an art exhibition that will remain in the trust for the next few weeks. TV presenter Gaby Roslin, NHS Employers director Sian Thomas and Chelsea and Westminster chief executive Heather Lawrence attended the launch. More than 150 trusts are participating in the national campaign with more 'extraordinary' events expected over the next few months. Read the press release in our media centre.
Extraordinary stories needed for 60th anniversary book
21 April 2008
As part of NHS Employers' 60th anniversary campaign, we are seeking current NHS staff to be part of a book of 60 staff and their stories, representing a snapshot of the NHS today. The book will celebrate ordinary people doing extraordinary things, with a focus on what makes NHS staff proud of their work. We are collecting stories until 30 May. See our 60 extraordinary stories page for details.
