Press release: NHS Employers' response to the Information Centre's Quality and Outcomes Framework data28 Sep 2006 In response to today's announcement of Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) data for April 2005 to April 2006, Dr Barbara Hakin, Chair of NHS Employers' General Medical Services negotiating team said: "We are really encouraged to see a continued improvement this year in the care that patients receive from their GP. This is only the second year of the QOF and results such as these reaffirm its importance in measuring the quality of service that patients are getting from their local practices and in gathering comprehensive data about the prevalence and treatment of common conditions. This data should also help practices to identify how they can continue to improve and tailor the services they provide to their patients locally. "The value of the QOF is in driving up quality of care for patients and it should continue to be challenging but achievable. It is subject to constant review to ensure that it reflects the needs of patients and the joint NHS Employers and General Practitioners Committee team who are responsible for its development will use these results to inform their discussions about any changes to the framework." Notes for editors* NHS Employers' GMS negotiating team was responsible for negotiating the original QOF with the General Practitioners Committee of the BMA. This was introduced into the GP contract in April 2004. Contact detailsThe press office provides a comprehensive service to keep journalists informed about the work of NHS Employers.
