Press release: NHS Employers takes responsibility for implementing strengthened code of practice on overseas recruitment08 Dec 2004 NHS Employers will be implementing the strengthened code of practice for recruitment of overseas healthcare staff announced by the Department of Health today. Alastair Henderson, Deputy Director of NHS Employers said: 'International recruitment is a significant part of the drive to expand the NHS workforce. However we have a duty to ensure that any activity to recruit healthcare professionals from developing countries is carried out without harming the interests of candidates or their countries of origin. We very much welcome the new guidance which will ensure that we set the highest of standards in international recruitment whilst at the same time tightening the code and bringing the independent sector under the guidelines that apply to the NHS. We look forward to taking on the role of monitoring the working of the code in practice and in supporting NHS employers as they go about their international recruitment'. NHS Employers will monitor the list of agencies who will recruit from overseas. It will also help and support NHS organisations who are looking to recruit staff from overseas.
