Press release: NHS Employers responds to Information Centre study of GP earnings29 Nov 2006 In response to today's announcement of income for family doctors under the new GP contract, Dr Barbara Hakin, Chair of NHS Employers' negotiating team, said: "The new practice-based contract was introduced in 2004 to give general practices additional funds to invest in improving and developing services to patients and to incentivise and reward GPs and their practice teams for driving up quality of patient care. This represented a radical modernisation of the general practice model. It is still early days but we are already seeing the benefits of the contract, for example in providing better information about the prevalence and treatment of common conditions and in patients starting to get access to a wider range of services in the community.
