Press release: NHS Employers' response to Committee of Public Accounts' report on the consultants' contract22 Nov 2007 Alastair Henderson, deputy director of NHS Employers, which represents NHS organisations on workforce issues, said: "We recognise the concerns that have been raised about implementation of the consultants' contract and, indeed, we have highlighted many of them in the past. However, the Committee's stark conclusions don't acknowledge the radical cultural change inherent in the contract and therefore the time required to deliver its full benefits. Trusts worked hard to implement the new contract across the NHS and are now using it to help deliver better patient services. "The Committee's conclusions acknowledge the crucial role that NHS Employers is playing in helping trusts to get the most out of the contract. We are working with 46 trusts from across the NHS to help them make best use of the contract to improve patient care and have already made progress on many of the Committee's recommendations. We will be sharing the learnings with the rest of the NHS over the coming months." Notes for editors
