Press release: NHS Employers welcomes union agreement to unsocial hours proposals20 Feb 2008 In response to the news today that the NHS trade unions have voted to accept proposals for a new system of payment for work carried out during unsocial hours, Gill Bellord, Director of Pay, Pensions & Employment Relations and Deputy Director, NHS Employers, said: "We are delighted that the NHS trade unions have voted to accept the proposals for paying staff whose standard working week includes work in the evenings, early in the morning, at weekends, bank holidays and at night. "This is unfinished business from the Agenda for Change agreement and is the result of extensive partnership working with NHS trade unions on the NHS Staff Council. "We believe the proposals are affordable, consistent with the principle of equal pay for work of equal value and create the incentives necessary for the provision of a high standard of service to patients." The new arrangement will come into effect on 1 April 2008. It will mean that staff on Agenda for Change pay bands will receive their usual pay for their time plus an additional percentage depending on whether they are working on a Saturday overnight or on a Sunday or public holiday.
