Press release: NHS Employers launches 'extraordinary' book celebrating 60 years of the NHS04 Nov 2008 NHS Employers today launches extraordinary, a book celebrating 60 years of the NHS, at the NHS Employers annual Leading Workforce Thinking conference in Birmingham. The book captures 60 NHS staff in stories and photos, showing what makes them proud of the NHS. It marks the end of the NHS Employers 60th anniversary campaign, which honoured the unique contribution NHS staff make to our communities under the slogan "ordinary people doing extraordinary things." Since the campaign was launched in May, 230 NHS trusts in England have been involved in this major national campaign, with staff, patients, politicians and celebrities among the estimated 500,000 people who have filled in postcards showing their pride in the NHS and its staff. Photos and stories from the campaign are featured at www.NHS60th.org.uk, while the book is available to buy at www.nhsemployers.org/extraordinary Sian Thomas, acting joint director of NHS Employers, said: "Each story in the book illustrates the positive impact NHS staff make to the lives of millions everyday. Since its launch, the extraordinary campaign has aimed to celebrate and recognise these achievements. "The staff featured in the book represent the 1.3 million ordinary people doing extraordinary things in today's health service." "The publication of this book, as part of our 60th anniversary campaign, is a fitting climax to a fantastic celebration of everything great about the NHS." Notes for editors
