To drive the change in approach, YAS recruited Rob Dimsdale, an employee wellbeing advisor, to liaise with the new provider in developing and improving the service.
The goals of the partnership are to provide an efficient occupational health service, that primarily:
delivers early intervention and appropriate support to service users
proactively seeks to promote wellbeing and reduce sickness absence within the organisation.
To deliver these goals, some of the services provided by the new OH provider include:
Fit4jobs - a new fast track online pre-employment screening process
OHIO - a new online OH management referral system
PhIL - a new fast track 24/7 physiotherapy triage and advice service to quickly progress MSK referrals
Day One - a new absence reporting system to ensure you get the advice and support you need on the first day of absence
Health Manager - an online health and wellbeing programme providing personalised health and wellbeing reports and action plans.
At this early stage of the contract, we have three phases to implementation:
This saw the introduction of the OH contract and the supporting employee assistance programme for two areas of the trust (West and South Yorkshire) on 1st October 2013.
This saw the introduction on 1st November 2013, of the Day One absence management process, which sees employees reporting sickness directly to the OH provider, thereby receiving advice and signposting at the earliest possible opportunity.
This will see the rollout of the OH provision to the other areas of the trust (North and East Yorkshire) on 1st April 2014 as the previous contract for those areas draws to a close.
Following implementation and consolidation of the services outlined above, PAM will also begin work with YAS on a proactive wellbeing plan to support the service in promoting staff wellbeing and reducing sickness absence.
