The flu fighter Cymru awards give flu fighter teams the opportunity to celebrate their hard work and gain recognition for all their efforts on local flu fighter Cymru campaigns.
The winners are...
Flu fighter Cymru champion - Ursula Arnold, Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board
This award recognises and celebrates the effort and commitment of an individual who has gone above and beyond expectations to promote the flu vaccination to staff. Ursula is a determined champion with unwavering dedication and commitment. In the emergency department this flu season, she vaccinated 98 per cent of nurses, 99 per cent of medical staff and 100 per cent of consultants.
Best flu fighter Cymru team - Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board
This award celebrates teams that have utilised their range of skills to lead a successful flu vaccination campaign and shown strong leadership and team working. The occupational health team at Betsi Cadwaladr trained local vaccinators across acute and community settings to ensure the vaccine was accessible, and by the end of the season had 92 local vaccinators in place.
#flufighterCymru award for digital and social media - Cwm Taf University Health Board This award is for those who have shown outstanding creativity in the use of digital and social media to promote the vaccine to staff. The communications team used a variety of ways to promote the campaign and encourage uptake, including a weekly blog, screensavers, a Flickr flu album, presentations on local radio and a Twitter #flujabselfie campaign.
Most innovative flu fighter Cymru campaign - Betsi Cadwaladr University Health BoardFor this category, we asked flu fighter teams to share any new or exciting strategies they have implemented this year to improve uptake at ward/unit, department, directorate, or organisation level. The Betsi staff flu vaccination group implemented a new procedure that required staff to complete a form and discuss the vaccine with their line manager if declining the vaccination. This enabled concerns to be discussed and gave an insight into the reasons why people declined the vaccine which will help inform future campaigns.
Most improved flu fighter Cymru campaign - Powys Teaching Health Board
This award aims to showcase teams who have made a significant improvement in flu vaccination uptake and to their overall campaign. This team used the flu campaign to encourage staff to think about their overall health and wellbeing. They gave out free pedometers to everyone who had the vaccine and used the slogan 'walk away from flu'.
