Am I there yet?
Well, what a fabulous day and a half working with fellow OD colleagues at the Do OD conference in July 2015 – or as Karen says, a “safe place to stay sharp”.
I have been asked to share some of my reflections, so here they are. I was fortunate to be selected to attend the afternoon of 14th July, working together on the Cultural Change in the NHS workshop – Are we there yet? A whole four hours to work with Gemma Kirk (as she kindly shared her current project of cultural change), to play with metaphors and the U process and experience how powerful these are when applied to real case studies. I love metaphors and use them all the time when coaching, but had simply not made the connection in my head as to how they can also help our own cultural change work back in Gloucestershire. I now have a refreshed toolkit and will be taking a completely different approach back with me to try – thank you Paul and Karen - And Gemma and Stefan too!
Day two included lots of different models, discussions, conversations to explore, as well as making more new friends and extending our OD network; all helping to stretch and shape my thinking as to how and where to make the difference going forward…. Particular workshop favourites for me were Systems Thinking and also the different ways to think about Evaluating OD, mainly because I had no idea what I was expecting for either and loved the way the discussions emerged to allow us to learn from real case studies in ways that we can readily apply to our own situations.
- great to see old friends again
- great to meet new friends
- and great to be reminded how big the OD agenda is and how much expertise we all have.
Thank you to Karen, Paul, Rebecca and all those who contributed. It was wonderful.
So, am I there yet? No – but I am right back in the driving seat and loving the journey.
