National Dementia Awareness Week 2014 Tommy Whitelaw's Story

To mark National Dementia Awareness Week which runs from 18 to 24 May, we are working with the Alzheimer’s Society to promote resources available to NHS organisations and the NHS workforce.

We have specially commissioned a short video of an interview with leading dementia awareness campaigner Tommy Whitelaw. Tommy used to travel the world as part of his role heading up global merchandising for pop acts the Spice Girls, Kylie and U2.

When his mother was diagnosed with vascular dementia, he became her full-time carer for five years until she sadly died in 2012. Since then, Tommy has dedicated his time to campaigning to raise the awareness of dementia. Tommy was interviewed by the editor of the Nursing Times, Jenni Middleton and the film can be viewed below.
