Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust created a two-day training course entitled a passport to management, to address the increasing pressures on staff.
Read the case study
The project team, along with managers, trade unions and the HR department, wanted to address employee relations cases at the trust. This was due to both grievance and disciplinary cases taking too long to reach a conclusion, with no clear outcomes and a high number of appeals. Since the project, the trust has seen a reduction in the time taken to resolve cases and fewer dissatisfied outcomes from trade unions. Managers have reported feeling more empowered, more confident to make decisions and more confident to use their discretion where appropriate.

Take a look at Passport to Management in action. The video shows the team at Guy’s talking about their award-winning initiative and the benefits it has brought to the trust, and goes live to day two of the programme with management attendees taking part in a forum theatre scenario to resolve a typical management issue.
