Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has an organisation wide approach to helping their employees be conflict competent.
The trust uses data to identify 'hotspot' issues and decides on the appropriate intervention to take, which can include mediation, conflict resolution training and line management training. These measures along with the support of senior leaders and complementary organisational policies, are having a positive impact on working environments. For example, in the NHS Staff Survey 2016, the trust had the lowest percentage of staff experiencing harassment, bullying or abuse from staff in the last 12 months for an acute trust in England.
