SAS doctors development and retention: support for the CESR training route

This case study looks at how Calderdale and Huddersfield Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has worked to resolve the challenges faced by specialty and associate specialist (SAS) and trust doctors.

  • how the trust established a certificate of eligibility for specialist registration (CESR )support group
  • designed posts to enable SAS and trust doctors to achieve the experience, knowledge and skills required to apply for CESR
  • attracted doctors to fill these posts creating a supply of doctors who can progress into consultant positions.
