Using your 2017 NHS Staff Survey data

03 / 07 / 2018

This briefing looks at how to understand and use your 2017 NHS Staff Survey data.

The NHS Staff Survey provides a rich source of information regarding the experience of staff in the workplace. The data has been shown to affect patient experience and reflect workforce indicators such as absence levels.

Organisations will already have made an initial analysis of Staff Survey scores, and our briefing discusses how to understand the data in context of overall trends, make links to other data sources and develop actions based on the evidence.

Areas of focus include:

  • making best use of the Staff Survey data
  • assessing the Staff Survey effectively, so it can help identify workforce issues
  • using data from other sources to help with people management.

NHS Employers is keen to get feedback on the issues raised and examples of how the issues are approached at local level. Please get in touch with views or examples via email (steven.weeks@nhsemployers.org).
