Supporting skilled refugees into clinical practice to help workforce supply

07 / 11 / 2018

In this case study we look at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust’s resettlement programme for refugees, which is assisting qualified overseas doctors and healthcare professionals to achieve professional registration in the UK.

The trust worked with a local charity to identify those who are wishing to return to practice. They offer candidates the full support needed to pass the requirements to be able to work and register professionally in the UK.

The programme has so far shown some great results. The programme and support offered by the trust and local organisations shows how new initiatives and partnership working to find non-traditional routes to recruitment is having real success. They have already recruited doctors into the organisation and due to the success of the programme are now supporting a third cohort.
