New whistleblowing helpline launched

NHS staff who have concerns and are unsure how to raise them or would like free, independent and confidential advice are able to call the new helpline provided by the Royal Mencap Society. The helpline is also open to employers for good practice advice.

The new number is 08000 724 725.

The helpline is available weekdays between 08.00 and 18.00 with an out of hours answering service on weekends and public holidays.

Communicating the new number to staff

Employers will need to consider how to communicate the new helpline number to staff:

  • your whistleblowing policy will need amending to include the new helpline number
  • your existing printed communication materials will need the new number
  • contact information on your intranet site will need amending
  • details of the new number will need to be inserted into your induction packs.

Resources for employers

In partnership with the Social Partnership Forum, we have produced a suite of communication materials to support employers in their internal communication to staff about raising concerns at work. These can be tailored locally, you might wish to consider using these as a way to make staff aware on the new helpline.

Public Concern at Work (PCaW) remain a independent whistleblowing charity offering advice, however they are no longer commissioned by the Department of Health to provide the national NHS helpline.
