Equality and diversity case studies

NHS Employers aims to highlight the good work that is taking place across the NHS in the field of equality and diversity. This page provides details of case studies that can be adopted and developed by other NHS organisations for their local use.

See the equality and diversity pages in our knowledge base for examples of what trusts are doing in the following areas:

  • The diversity strands - case studies include how Southend University Hospital Foundation Trust improved services for patients with learning disabilities and how Sandwell PCT supported staff to make more informed choices about retirement
  • Equality Impact Assessments (EqIA) - examples include how Lewisham Primary Care Trust developed a simple, yet robust equality impact assessment process and how Walsall Teaching Primary Care Trust (PCT) used a web based equality impact assessment tool
  • Single Equality Schemes (SES) - examples include how the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust used its SES to help mainstream equality and diversity and how St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust involved staff and the community in shaping its diversity strategy through its SES

Sharing your case studies

If you have any examples of projects, initiatives or pilot schemes that you are willing to share with colleagues across the NHS, please contact the NHS Employers equality and diversity team at the email address in contacts.
