NHS ranks in top five most attractive employers
The NHS ranked equal third alongside MI5 in the Financial Times' top employer rankings for 2008. The desire to give something back to society was seen as a factor and the FT cited www.whatcanidowithmydegree.nhs.uk, the graduate website managed by NHS Employers, as contributing to the NHS's popularity among final year students. DH loses House of Lords judgment on BAPIO appeal
The House of Lords today issued its judgment on the appeal brought by the Department of Health against the Court of Appeal ruling that it acted unlawfully in issuing guidance that restricted entry to postgraduate medical training for IMGs with leave to remain that did not cover the entire length of the training programme. The House of Lords dismissed the appeal by four to one. (30 April)

Shortage occupation list consultation response
In March, NHS Employers asked NHS organisations to provide information that demonstrated which occupations they were having difficulty recruiting to. We received an excellent response and a summary of this is now available on our international recruitment pages. The Home Office will now asses the responses in order to produce a new shortage occupation list for the autumn. (28 April 2008)

NHS staff survey results
NHS Employers says the results of the 2007 NHS staff survey show that the NHS remains a good place to work and that employers have improved on key measures including job satisfaction, training and work-life balance. At the same time it is clear that we need to do more in areas such as bullying and harassment and violence and we will be supporting employers to tackle this.
