Appointment combines frontline HR experience with first class skills in workforce strategy
The NHS Employers organisation has today (Friday) confirmed that Danny Mortimer has been appointed as its new chief executive, succeeding Dean Royles who left earlier this month.
Rob Webster, chief executive of the NHS Confederation, of which NHS Employers is a part, said the appointment was excellent news for the organisation and for HR in the NHS.
Mr Webster said:
"Danny was an outstanding candidate and will be a genuine asset. He brings many years of frontline HR experience and real proficiency in tackling the workforce issues currently facing the service. His relationships with the NHS Confederation, through the NHS Employers Policy Board, gives a good balance of fresh ideas and energy, while maintaining continuity and momentum. It’s an exciting time for the health service and NHS Employers is a key element in ensuring its future success.”
Mr Mortimer is currently Director of Workforce and Strategy at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH), which he joined in 2007. He joins NHS Employers as the next phase in a career that spans more than 20 years in the health service, including time as a porter and a healthcare assistant before joining the NHS regional training programme in the West Midlands. He has worked across the health service, and his career has taken him throughout England.
Mr Mortimer said:
'I've been proud and privileged to be part of the Board at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. It is a superb organisation, in a superb community, and I have been fortunate to work with terrific colleagues inside and outside the Trust.
“I've always been impressed by the talent and commitment of the NHS Employers team, so I am truly delighted to join them as Chief Executive, and look forward to continuing to deliver on the ambitious agenda that is essential to progress for the health service, the people it employs, and those it serves."
He will take up the post of NHS Employers chief executive later this year.
