The NHS Employers organisation has today (13 March 2015) confirmed that Paul Wallace has been appointed as its new Director of Employment Relations and Reward. He will start in Spring.
A senior HR reward management professional, Paul has extensive experience of working in large, complex organisations where constructive relationships are essential with unions and other stakeholders.
"I'm delighted to be joining NHS Employers and looking forward to the new challenge.
"I believe the best solutions are found through constructive partnerships, so a priority will be meeting employers and unions to explore their concerns, evidence and ideas. I don't expect many easy answers but I'll work towards sustainable ones."
Danny Mortimer, chief executive of NHS Employers, said:
“Pay, rewards and employment contracts sit right at the centre of discussions about NHS sustainability, so I’m extremely pleased to have someone as talented as Paul taking this area forward. His commitment and understanding around industrial relations can help employers and unions to work together, agreeing changes that are better for the health service, staff and patients.”
He arrives from his role as Group Head of Reward in the Ministry of Justice from 2011, being responsible for the development of all aspects of pay and reward strategy. He joined the civil service in 2005 as the Head of Reward in HM Prison Service (later becoming the NOMS Agency). In his earlier career he worked as a consultant, including spending time working in the NHS where he gained an understanding of the Agenda for Change pay framework (which covers over one million NHS staff) and the current pay and contracts in operation for medical staff.
Gill Bellord, the current long-standing Director of Employment Relations and Reward at NHS Employers, retires in April.
