Junior doctors strike action

The BMA Junior Doctors’ Committee decision to go ahead with strike action is premature and harmful to patients. It is disappointing that strike action is going ahead when negotiations still continue and significant progress has already been made.

The strikes will be a very disruptive and damaging time for the NHS, with the effect felt most by patients, their families and carers.  We know thousands of patient appointments have been postponed, with surgery and clinics having to be rearranged which is distressing for patients and frustrating for the NHS.

Junior doctors concerns can only be addressed around the negotiating table -  not on the picket line. We continue to talk facilitated through ACAS so that we can agree a new contract that is fair for doctors and patients.
