Danny Mortimer, Chief Executive of NHS Employers said:

“NHS Employers is deeply concerned about the shortages of key roles such as nurses and doctors in the NHS. We know, particularly for nursing that this is a problem that is being experienced nationally. The NHS is under considerable pressure and the shortage of nurses and doctors cannot be ignored however action to address the substantially high number of nurse vacancies must be a priority. Whilst measures such as increasing nursing training have been introduced they take time to come to fruition. We need to ensure nursing is included on the Government’s shortage occupation list so that the NHS can recruit from overseas and secure safe staffing of services.”
