Immigration must be flexible to allow employers to recruit skills, says Cavendish Coalition

Danny Mortimer

Responding to the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) interim update on European Economic Area workers in the UK, Cavendish Coalition co-convenor Danny Mortimer said Immigration must be flexible to allow employers to recruit skills

“We are encouraged the MAC has noted our warning against extending the current non-EEA immigration system to Europe.

“We now look forward to seeing an increased focus in the final report on the solutions required to help us deliver first-rate social care and health services.

"These must ensure that any future immigration system is flexible enough to allow employers to quickly recruit the skills required to sustain a social care and health system fit for the 21st Century.

“In the short to medium term it’s simply not feasible or realistic to meet our needs through domestic recruitment alone.

“We have access to a wealth of information, data and intelligence and stand ready to help the MAC with the next stages of its review.”
