They spoke about the importance of ensuring that service users and patients are at the heart of everything they do in the Trust, including their Organisational Development Strategy. A key theme in their OD strategy was around Leadership Development and Talent Management.
Steve created a programme called ‘Exciting Futures’ that took those people identified as top talent - regardless of grade or hierarchy - and formed them into project teams. As Steve said, “it’s a combination of The Apprentice and Challenge Anneka”. Those project teams were supported with coaching and development, with the intention of then being used in the organisation to help services implement changes and improvements.

One of the projects we heard about was “Bags of Inspiration”, created by the Bradford Working Women’s service. This project focused on supporting women who sell sex on the streets of Bradford, bringing them together to work on a creative project where they designed and sold shopping bags. We discovered that the project not only gave the women a safe space off the streets, but also impacted on their sense of self esteem and mental health. In the podcast we track the life of the project from strategy, to implementation, and impact.
There’s no doubt that the bags of inspiration project is having a dramatic effect on the women involved, and helping to change their lives. It was great to showcase a Trust where OD is directly connected to service users and the impact is tangible.
