The two case studies detail what each trust did to implement their programmes, how they got engagement from their boards and staff, how they measured success and what they are doing to continually improve them.

Happy, Healthy and Safe at Tameside Hospital Foundation Trust

Tameside Hospital Foundation Trust implemented their health and wellbeing strategy to improve the health of their employees, enhance their performance and improve patient care. As a result of this work the trust not only has large numbers of staff engaged in making positive changes to their lifestyles, but a more detailed understanding of the health needs of a large sample of its staff, which will help in the ongoing development, refinement and delivery of the programme in the future.

'Fit at the free' - a health and wellbeing programme in action

The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust and their ‘Fit at the Free' (FATF) programme launched in 2011 to actively champion staff health and wellbeing. FATF aims to support a healthy workforce through a variety of activities. The trust has seen many benefits as a result of the programme including, improved staff morale, positive active management of sickness absence, an increase in its staff engagement score not to mention a fitter, healthier workforce.
